PRESS RELEASE: The second cadaver workshop targeting advanced intervention techniques

03. 3. 2017

Bratislava 2. 3. 2017       EuroPainClinics®, the expert guarantor of the network of partners and cooperating workplaces focussed on pain treatment, in collaboration with the Department of Anatomy at Comenius University in Bratislava, has organised the second international cadaver workshop to be held on 4 and 5 March. The central theme are the diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, including advanced endoscopic procedures on the spine during severely painful conditions of the lumbar and cervical spine.

EuroPainClinics_CWThe two-day workshop, which will welcome more than twenty European doctors from a number of medical specializations, includes a series of interactive lectures focused on the basics of the anatomy, pathophysiology and epidemiology of pain and practical training in spinal Interventional techniques on cadaver models. The aim of the workshop is training in the comprehensive assessment and evaluation of the most effective diagnostic and therapeutic approach to patients who suffer from advanced pain of the lower back or pain of the cervical spine.

The professional guarantors of the cadaver workshop are Róbert Rapčan, FIPP, Medical Director EuroPainClinics®, and doc. MUDr. Eliška Kubíková PhD., head of the Anatomical Institute LF UK in Bratislava. The main instructors and lecturers will be Dr Sherdil Nath (Sweden) Dr Anthony Hammond (United Kingdom), Dr Stefan Hellinger (Germany), MUDr. Róbert Rapčan, FIPP and MUDr. Juraj Mláka (Slovak Republic).

MUDr. Róbert Rapčan, FIPP, says the main idea of the project is: “A working, multidisciplinary meeting of this type confirms the active interest in the theoretical basis of knowledge from the field of interventional pain treatment and its application in clinical practice. We are delighted that by means of EuroPainClinics’® educational projects and high-quality education, our international medical team can share and pass on medical knowledge, extensive professional experience and practical skills from the field of mini-invasive endoscopic techniques to a wide range of specialists from both home and abroad.”

Doc. MUDr. Eliška Kubíková, PhD., Head of the Department of Anatomy, Comenius University in Bratislava, which is the main partner of the workshop, added the following: “I’m very glad that the Institute of Anatomy can participate in this international workshop. It is also proof that without a detailed knowledge of anatomy as a basic medical field, successful clinical practice is simply not possible.”

During the intensive programme the topics covered will include discogenic pain, radiofrequency denervation of the lumbar and cervical facet joints, lumbar discography, intradiscal treatment of the intervertebral discs with posterior denervation, endoscopic discectomy, epiduroscopy and neurostimulation.

Partners of the second cadaver workshop are elliquence (USA), Medtronic (Slovak Republic) and the AMS Group (Italy), the leading suppliers and manufacturers of medical technology, equipment and instrumentation for carrying out spinal surgical techniques.

The second cadaver workshop is a prestigious event, through which the EuroPainClinics® has confirmed its high professionalism and the excellent clinical results it continues to achieve in the field of interventional pain management. The specific results of the workshop will become part of the source findings for the knowledge platforms enabling them to be further used in the everyday practice of all the EuroPainClinics® workplaces. The workshop is accredited by the Slovak Medical Chamber (SLK).

The Department of Anatomy is one of the largest institutes of the Medical Faculty of the Comenius University in Bratislava with a long history that can be traced back to the famous Slovak anatomist Prof. Július Ledényi-Ladziansky. The Anatomical Institute’s main and most important task is to give medical students the largest possible basis in the anatomy of the human body. Without knowledge of anatomy it is not possible to study at a MF, nor treat, nor investigate. This study can be realised in detail thanks to the donors, who have decided that after their death their body will be used to serve this purpose. www.fmed.uniba.sk
